Reader-supported
Affiliate Disclosure
Off-Grid Field Guide is reader-supported. That is the short version. Here is the longer one, in plain language, so you know exactly how we make money and how it affects what you read.
The Amazon Associates Program
Off-Grid Field Guide is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a way for sites to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
When you click one of our links and buy something on Amazon, Amazon pays us a small percentage of the sale. It is a commission on Amazon's end, not a markup on yours.
No extra cost to you
Buying through our links never costs you a penny more. You pay the same price you would pay if you went to Amazon directly. The commission comes out of Amazon's margin, not your wallet. If our links help you find the right gear, the small fee we earn is what keeps the guide free to read.
It does not change our picks
We choose products based on what is best for a beginner, not on what pays the most. A budget battery that earns us a few cents will still beat a pricey one in our roundup if it is the smarter buy for you. Our recommendations come from specs, manufacturer data, owner-feedback patterns, and head-to-head comparison. You can read the full method on our how we test page and our standards on the editorial policy page.
Why we don't show prices
You will notice we do not print prices anywhere on the site. Off-grid gear is discounted constantly, and a price we typed last month would be wrong today. Instead, our links take you straight to the live Amazon listing, so the number you see is the real, current price. It also means we never accidentally mislead you with an outdated figure.
